Site Monitoring and Management Head, Cell Therapy

Introduction to role

Join our dynamic Site Management and Monitoring (SMM) organization, a global team operating in over 10 countries, dedicated to advancing Cell Therapy clinical trials. We are seeking a leader with therapeutic expertise in oncology, haematology, autoimmune, or rare diseases to drive high-quality study delivery and data collection. Your project management skills, stakeholder management abilities, and leadership will be crucial in translating strategic plans into action. As the Oncology SMM Head, reporting to the VP of Cell Therapy Clinical Operations, you will ensure global site management delivery across our Cell Therapy portfolio. Collaborate with various functions to incorporate country-level insights and recruitment timelines into operational plans. You will also play a key role in issue escalation and problem resolution for studies, while managing the recruitment, development, and performance of SMM staff.

Accountabilities

  • Lead and drive operational excellence for clinical trial activities from planning to closure.
  • Develop an agile site management strategy in collaboration with partners, benchmarking against industry metrics.
  • Support AstraZeneca’s digital strategy implementation.
  • Ensure resource and capability levels for SMM roles.
  • Foster collaborations between global stakeholders and market functions.
  • Develop a strong people agenda for training and performance.
  • Implement outsourcing strategies for optimal sourcing models.
  • Communicate business priorities clearly to staff.
  • Build collaborative relationships with stakeholders.
  • Ensure excellence in clinical trial processes and systems.
  • Forecast resources and optimize staffing processes.
  • Manage strategic relationships with CROs and partners.
  • Ensure compliance with ICH/GCP and regulations.

Essential Skills/Experience

  • Bachelor Degree in a relevant subject area
  • At least 8 years of experience and proven expertise in Clinical Development area and multi-disciplinary experience (cross-functional or functional)
  • Previous experience of working in a site management organisation at a country, regional or global level
  • Strong technical and extensive Cell Therapy Clinical Operations expertise
  • Proven line management expertise; experience of line management of associate director level staff (experience of managing Director level staff desirable but not essential)
  • Ability to effectively influence and communicate Ability to engage, influence and collaborate across boundaries with a problem solving and delivery focus
  • Ability to assimilate complex information and identify key issues and message
  • Functional management experience, managing resourcing, budget planning and functional level activities
