Regional Customer Director, Northeast – Immunology
The Regional Customer Director (RCD) is a customer-facing field supporting the US Immunology Franchise. The position focuses on identifying and developing current and future External Scientific Experts (ESEs), strengthening AstraZeneca’s connections across Rheumatology and emerging Immunology specialties, fostering promotional educational advancement within a growing Immunology portfolio. As part of the US Marketing team, the RCD captures insights, advances advocacy, builds partnerships and grows advocacy with Rheumatologists and other targeted specialists. This role reports directly to the Senior Marketing Director, LCM Portfolio & Customer Engagement Immunology.
Aligned to the Northeast Region, the RCD Northeast position collaborates to identify and develop ESEs, delivering best-in-class engagements that drive brand advocacy, generate insights to inform marketing strategy, and foster innovation across a matrixed network of internal stakeholders and external customers. The RCD serves as the lead point of contact for US commercial activities with ESEs in their geography and partners closely with global, Medical, US Commercial, and Compliance teams to maximize ESE relationships and shape the future of AstraZeneca Immunology.
What you’ll do:
- Accountable for the quality, breadth, and depth of Rheumatologist Commercial External Scientific Expert (ESE) relationships at the regional/area level.
- Build customized Regional Marketing plans that maximize ESE support of brand objectives, optimize brand investments, and align Sales Force strategies to deliver business outcomes in a matrixed team environment.
- Leverage key opinion leader insights to drive market leadership, advocacy, and commercial strategies through tactics such as advisory boards, expert panels, peer-to-peer content, product theatres/symposiums, and 1 to 1 engagement.
- Expand AstraZeneca’s partnerships with ESEs (Rheumatologists, Immunology networks, Patient Advocacy groups) to advance disease state understanding and improve patient care.
- Collaborate with cross-functional partners—Sales, Brand, Medical Affairs, Market Access, and Institutional Account Managers—to drive brand leadership with HCPs and top IDN accounts.
- Collaborate to select, determine and lead AstraZeneca’s presence at key national and regional congresses, including product theatres, speaker programs, booths, and ESE interactions.
- Establish AstraZeneca as a leader in Lupus while expanding presence across the growing Immunology portfolio.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree
- 8+ years of experience in the pharmaceutical or biotechnology industry
- Broad experience in Commercial and/or Medical Affairs with strong Immunology clinical and business acumen
- Proven ability to influence without authority and thrive in highly collaborative, cross‑functional environments
- Demonstrated experience designing, implementing, and executing project plans, programs, and related initiatives
- Strong capability to navigate complex or challenging conversations with internal and external stakeholders
- Track record of success in an agile environment, shaping and delivering innovative solutions
- Willingness to travel approximately 40–50% in support of national, regional, and local brand initiatives
Preferred Qualifications
- Residence on the Eastern Seaboard with access to a major airport
- Experience engaging Rheumatologists and other Immunology specialists at a strategic partnership level
- Prior experience across multiple functions (e.g., Sales, District Sales Management, Brand Team, Market Access, TLL, Regional Marketing Director, and/or Medical Affairs)
- Proven ability to build and maintain strong business relationships with key immunology stakeholders, including health systems and top customers (existing relationships with Rheumatologists or Lupus clinical experts preferred)
- Advanced degree (e.g., MBA, PhD, PharmD)
Pay Transparency
The annual base pay for this position could range from $190,693 – $233,000 USD Annual. Hourly and salaried non-exempt employees will also be paid overtime pay when working qualifying overtime hours. Base pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. In addition, our positions offer a short-term incentive bonus opportunity; eligibility to participate in our equity-based long-term incentive program (salaried roles), to receive a retirement contribution (hourly roles), and commission payment eligibility (sales roles). Benefits offered include a qualified retirement program [401(k) plan]; paid vacation and holidays; paid leaves; and health benefits including medical, prescription drug, dental, and vision coverage in accordance with the terms and conditions of the applicable plans. Additional details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment. If hired, employees will be in an “at-will position” and the Company reserves the right to modify base pay (as well as any other discretionary payment or compensation program) at any time, including for reasons related to individual performance, Company or individual department/team performance, and market factors.
