About the Role:
We are seeking an innovative and strategic Global Head of Clinical Pharmacology and Pharmacometrics to lead a dynamic team of approximately ~150 scientists across multiple global locations, including Sweden, UK, US, Spain and India. This pivotal leadership role will be accountable and drive the advancement of our clinical programs related to clinical pharmacology, dose and exposure response prediction across all therapy area with a particular focus at Oncology, Obesity, and Immunology. It is expected to integrate cutting-edge technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI) and systems modelling to enhance drug development strategies.
Key Responsibilities:
- Leadership and Team Management: Oversee and mentor a diverse, globally distributed team of ~150 scientists, fostering a collaborative and innovative culture to achieve scientific and organizational goals
- Strategic Development: Develop and execute a forward-thinking strategy for clinical pharmacology and pharmacometrics, aligning with company objectives and leveraging AI and advanced analytics to optimize drug development pipelines.
- Representation within AstraZeneca: Chair the clinical pharmacology review board and contribute as a core member of the First in Human Review Board, the Executive Safety Board, the Clinical Pharmacology Safety (CPSS) leadership and, if required, deputize for the Head of Clinical Pharmacology and Safety Sciences (CPSS) at early- and late-stage strategic portfolio committees.
- Scientific Expertise: Provide deep expertise in either Oncology, Immunology or Obesity, guiding the design and implementation of clinical pharmacology studies, including systems modelling and dose optimization.
- Global Collaboration: Partner with cross-functional teams in particular the therapy areas as well as clinical operations, regulatory affairs, and data science, across multiple regions to ensure seamless integration of pharmacology insights into global clinical programs.
- Innovation and AI Integration: Drive the adoption of AI and machine learning tools through academic and industry collaborations to enhance dose and clinical outcome predictions, streamline trial designs, and accelerate decision-making processes e.g. digital twins.
- Regulatory and Compliance: Ensure all clinical pharmacology activities meet global regulatory standards, contributing to successful submissions and interactions with regulatory authorities worldwide.
- Stakeholder Engagement: Build on strong communication skills and reputation as a scientific expert, represent the organization at AstraZeneca’s senior governance meetings as well as global conferences, with key opinion leaders, to advance the companies scientific reputation and influence.
- Operations: responsible for the operational excellence of the organization including investments and budget.
Qualifications:
- Education: PhD or equivalent in Clinical Pharmacology, Pharmacometrics, or a related field.
- Experience: Minimum of 15 years of global experience in clinical pharmacology and pharmacometrics within the pharmaceutical or biotechnology industry.
- Proven track record of leading large, geographically dispersed teams (100+ scientists).
- Extensive expertise in Oncology, Obesity or Immunology, with a strong portfolio of successful clinical programs.
- Demonstrated experience in integrating AI or advanced computational tools into drug development processes.
- Skills: Strategic thinker with the ability to translate complex scientific concepts into actionable plans.
- Exceptional leadership and interpersonal skills to manage and inspire a diverse global team.
- Strong understanding of global regulatory requirements and clinical trial design.
- Proficiency in AI-driven methodologies and systems modelling for drug development is highly desirable.
- Global Perspective: Experience working across multiple regions (e.g., Europe, North America, Asia) with cultural sensitivity and adaptability.
