Role Overview

The Field Medical Writer will lead the development, writing, and updates of a standardizedhyperkalemia treatment protocol in collaboration withkey external experts (KEEs) and hospital stakeholders. The role is field‑focused, engaging directly with clinical teams across multiple institutions to harmonize practices, incorporate evidence-based recommendations, and drive adoption. The position requires strong scientific acumen, medical writing expertise, and the ability to build advocacy and manage stakeholder follow‑up.

Key Responsibilities

  • Writing and updating a comprehensive hyperkalemia treatment protocol across an estimated 8–10 hospitals, ensuring clinical accuracy, consistency, and alignment to current guidelines and local practice constraints.
  • Working with KEEs across 18 hospitals to gather insights, reconcile variations in practice, and integrate consensus recommendations into the protocol.
  • Reviewing and synthesizing recent literature, clinical guidelines, and local data to inform protocol content, algorithms, and decision pathways.
  • Facilitating cross‑functional and cross‑institutional input (nephrology, cardiology, emergency medicine, pharmacy) and coordinate review cycles with KEEs and hospital administrators.
  • Building advocacy for the protocol by developing clear clinical rationales, educational materials, and communication plans tailored to hospital teams and leadership.
  • Establishing document control, track changes, and maintain an audit trail of inputs, decisions, and approvals.
  • Providing field support for onboarding and rollout, including training aids, quick-reference tools, and feedback mechanisms to monitor adoption barriers and needed refinements.
  • Planning timelines, milestones, and stakeholder touchpoints to deliver within the 10‑month term, escalating risks and driving resolution to keep hospitals on schedule.
  • Ensuring all materials adhere to medical, regulatory, and ethical standards, with clear sourcing, disclaimers, and conflict-of-interest management.

Essential Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or higher in ascientific discipline (e.g., pharmacy, nursing, biomedical sciences, medicine, public health). Advanced degree preferred.
  • Demonstrated capability to author clinical protocols, care pathways, SOPs, or guideline summaries with high editorial and scientific rigor.
  • Strong understanding of acute care workflows; familiarity withhyperkalemia pathophysiology, risk stratification, treatment options (stabilization, shift, elimination), and monitoring is a plus.
  • Proven ability to follow up and collaborate withKEEs and hospital administrators, facilitating consensus and approvals across multiple sites.
  • Experience coordinating multi-center protocol development, managing timelines, review cycles, and deliverables.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication, able to translate complex evidence into clear, actionable guidance and educational materials.
  • Ability to critically appraise literature and integrate evidence with pragmatic clinical considerations.
  • Knowledge of medical, regulatory, and ethical standards relevant to protocol development and dissemination.

Desired Experience

  • Prior field medical writing or MSL/medical affairs experience working with hospitals and KEEs.
  • Experience implementing standardized clinical protocols across multiple institutions.
  • Familiarity with quality improvement methodologies and metrics tracking for protocol adoption.

Term and Location

  • Contract Term:10 months
  • Travel/Field Work: Regular on-site engagement across participating hospitals, with flexibility for virtual collaboration as needed.
