Mechatronics Engineer — Robotics Assembly & Commissioning

Location New Haven, Connecticut, United States Jobb-id R-256723 Datum inlagd 07/21/2026

Be a key member of the Advanced Robotics & Data Orchestration Team, building and sustaining the mechanical, electrical, and control systems that turn instruments and robots into reliable, reusable, push-button workflows for Alexion’s Product Development & Clinical Supply organization. Help transform our multimodality product development labs from manual, time intensive workflows, into an automated, scalable, and scientist-friendly ecosystem by designing and commissioning work cells, integrating devices and sensors, and partnering with Lab Orchestration and Data Engineering experts to improve uptime, safety, and data integrity.  Help us accelerate life-changing therapies to patients with rare and ultra-rare diseases.

This is what you will do:

  • Assemble and integrate robotic and lab automation hardware (fixtures, guards, conveyors, end of arm tooling) and wire signals to controllers.

  • Perform alignment, calibration, and dry run testing; validate sensors, interlocks, and safety functions.

  • Assist with instrument connectivity (signals over serial/Ethernet), barcode, or RFID capture, weigh/dispense, and other material handling verification.

  • Pair with orchestration engineers to validate state transitions, timing, and exception handling on live systems.

  • Maintain drawings and documentation; support requirements and validation testing and issue tracking during factory/site activities.

  • Support operator enablement (checklists, basic training, day two troubleshooting) and reliability improvements focused on reducing errors and reruns.

You will be responsible for:

  • Integrated, documented work cells that pass safety and validation checks.

  • Accurate wiring, schematics, and bills of materials; timely issue resolution and updates.

  • Execution quality during commissioning, cutovers, and hypercare.

  • Contributions to uptime, material flow reliability, and operator experience.

You will need to have:

  • Education/experience: MS + 0 years, or BS + 4 years in Mechanical, Electrical, Mechatronics, or a related field (or equivalent hands-on experience)—including 2+ years integrating lab or industrial automation hardware (robots, conveyors, fixtures, sensors, controllers, and input/output).

  • Experience with calibration, alignment, mechanical assembly, and electrical wiring; ability to read and update drawings.

  • Collaborative mindset with orchestration/software, data engineers, and scientists/operators; clear, practical documentation.

  • The duties of this role may require periodic work in a laboratory or manufacturing environment. As is typical of such roles, employees must be able, with or without an accommodation to: lift/carry 15/30 pounds unassisted/assisted; work comfortably in a controlled environment with and around hazardous materials; gown/degown PPE; use a computer; engage in communications via phone, video, and electronic messaging; engage in problem solving and non-linear thought, analysis, and dialogue; collaborate with others; maintain general availability during standard business hours.

We would prefer for you to have:

  • Exposure to regulated lab practices and validation documentation.

  • Familiarity with barcode or RFID, basic vision, and material handling equipment.

  • Awareness of observability concepts (telemetry, alarms) and reliability basics.

When we put unexpected teams in the same room, we unleash bold thinking with the power to inspire life‑changing medicines. In‑person working gives us the platform we need to connect, work at pace, and challenge perceptions. That is why we work, on average, a minimum of four days per week from the office.
