About the role

Medical information at AstraZeneca is responsible for the planning, development, maintenance and implementation of medical content and communication for health care professionals using various channels, including digital, to support patient care. As a core member to the therapeutically-aligned business unit, you will support the medical strategy by building medical/scientific content and providing insights and recommendations to internal partners.

Typical Accountabilities/Responsibilities:

  • Be a medical content specialist to AstraZeneca therapeutic areas, including products, disease state, emerging therapies and therapeutic landscape

  • Provide accurate and timely responses (verbal and/or written) to triaged/escalated medical information requests from healthcare practitioners and/or vendor

  • Build, review and maintain local medical information content (i.e. standard response letters, literature comparisons, and market intelligence, etc.) to align with global assets and local strategies

  • Identify and report Adverse Events to Patient Safety as per standard operating procedures; training will be completed prior to performing tasks

  • Actively participate in and contribute to digital initiatives (i.e. OPTIC, AZMedical, MedOmni)

  • Organize, host or participate in My Science Matters (MSM) events within the organization

  • Provide back-up to your team members as needed, and perform additional tasks as assigned by management to improve how we work and enhance your development

  • Ensure that all local and globally driven key performance indicators for Medical Information-related tasks and deliverables are met

  • Conduct activities and interactions consistent with what we value and in compliance with the Code of Ethics and supporting Policies and Standards, reporting potential issues of non-compliance should these occur

Scientific Content/Brand Partnership

  • Support the build of and/or lead internal brand and therapeutic training; working closely with the Medical team (Medical Science Liaisons, Medical Advisors, etc.) create, revise and maintain scientific presentations

  • Identify, analyze, and report scientific insights/trends to internal SA stakeholders to input into AZ’s medical strategy and to update or create additional scientific materials (responses, slide decks, Q&As)

  • Working with the brand team, provide scientific expertise and review promotional materials

Customer Engagement

  • Engage virtually in scientific exchange with healthcare professionals (HCPs) in an effort to facilitate scientific discovery and informed treatment decisions​ to improve positive outcomes for patients

  • Support expansion of medical-scientific engagement through multichannel approach

  • Drive content strategy for multichannel approach to external engagement including content build and channel maintenance in collaboration with Medical Advisor

Requirements:

  • You hold a university degree in Pharmacy (BScPhm, PharmD, MPharm) or Medicine (MD)

  • You have exceptional communication skills (verbal and written) and an excellent ability to learn and explain scientific concepts and knowledge

  • You are able to critically evaluate, assess and synthesize scientific literature in order to effectively disseminate information to HCPs via multiple channels

  • Experience in writing/medical communications/content creation (e.g. slide decks)

  • You have effective relationship skills and a strong commitment to positively impacting a team

  • Effective presentation skills

Desirable skills:

  • At least 2+ years clinical experience

  • 2+ years experience in pharmaceutical industry (preferably in Medical Information or the Medical Affairs function) or completion of an industrial pharmacy residency program is preferred

  • Customer-facing experience

  • Experience using and developing digital content and/or digital content strategy highly desired

  • Bilingualism (English/French) is an asset
