At AstraZeneca, Biometrics is the function that supports all aspects of early and late-stage drug development, including strategy, clinical trial design, data collection, analyses, data reporting and interpretation to inform the quality decision making in drug projects. Our goal is to deliver value to the pipeline through excellence in strategy and delivery, improving decision making, and engaging and shaping the external environment whilst accessing and implementing innovative solutions.
What does the Programme involve?
We have opportunities targeted at Statisticians with little or no experience in the pharmaceutical industry to work across all stages of development statistics activities. In this permanent position, you will spend the first two years at AstraZeneca working in a structured training programme, working on drug development projects. In addition, you will receive on-the-job statistical training and be part of a global training programme.
You will work in a highly collaborative team including quantitative, technical, regulatory, and scientific expertise and together with your colleagues contribute to the design, analysis, interpretation, documentation and regulatory submission of our drug development programs.
Our Position
As a Statistician, you will provide statistical expertise in the design of experimental work and evaluate and interpret experimental results in research projects and clinical trials, referring to more senior Statistical experts where necessary. You will manage own work to schedule/quality and will apply a range of Statistical methods. You will be able to solve complex problems within own area and will participate in multi disciplinary teams.
Main responsibilities:
- Demonstrate independence in providing statistical support for standard design and interpretation of study data
- Under guidance of a more experienced statistician will undertake design and analysis of complex studies, and provide support broader programs, which may include preclinical studies, complex regulatory submissions or commercialization activities and/or high level internal governance committee interactions
- Analyze internal and external information to inform design decisions and the development of decision criteria
- Apply modelling and simulation to inform study design, assess robustness of results etc.
- Develop a Statistical Analysis Plan for study and/or project delivery
- Produce analysis, supporting graphics and analysis tables for standard studies, such as study reports, Global Medical Affairs studies or publications
- Able to interpret, summarize and communicate results of standard studies
- Apply statistical methodology to improve the process and delivery activities
- Contribute to building new ways of working to improve quality, efficiency and effectiveness
- Accountable for the quality of their statistical work; provide discipline-specific understanding, insight and constructive challenge and self-aware of own development needs
Qualifications:
- PhD in Statistics gained between 2024 and 2026 or completed earlier with limited or no experience.
- Competent statistical programmer (SAS and R)
- Knowledge of key technical and regulatory requirements
- Experience of design, analysis and reporting of preclinical or clinical studies in more than one setting
- Strong communication skills with a team-based approach toward work
- Oncology experience would be an advantage

Annual base salary for this position ranges from 109,148.80 to 143,257.80.AstraZeneca is committed to providing fair and equitable compensation opportunities to all colleagues. Our compensation policies and practices have been designed to allow colleagues to progress through the salary range over time as they progress in their role. The range provided in this posting represents an offer pay range used in a majority of situations. The base pay offered will vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including the candidate's skills and experience, job-related knowledge, and other specific business and organizational needs. In some cases, offers outside the range may also be considered to address unique circumstances.
In addition, our permanent positions offer an annual Variable Pay Bonus/Short Term Incentive opportunity as well as eligibility to participate in our equity-based long-term incentive program (if applicable to role). Benefits offered for permanent roles include a competitive Flex Benefits & Retirement Savings Program, 4 weeks’ paid vacation, and annual Personal Days.
