Role: Director, Site Strategy and Engagement

The AZ Canada Director, Site Strategy and Engagement serves as the operational lead for the AstraZeneca Canada site(s), overseeing both strategy and execution. This is an office environment (non-manufacturing). This pivotal role involves leading a cross-functional team and collaborating closely with the CFO, Country President, the Site Leadership Team (SLT), and other key stakeholders to implement strategic plans that position AZ Canada as one of the premier global multifunctional hubs. The individual in this role will proactively apply knowledge, strategies, innovation, operations, and resources to address current and future needs, ensuring AZ Canada becomes one of the most valuable multifunctional sites worldwide.

As a senior leader within AstraZeneca’s organization, the AZ Canada Site Director will interact with key stakeholders to understand unmet expectations and shape strategies to address these expectations innovatively and efficiently. This role offers significant exposure to internal stakeholders and plays a crucial part in making the AZ Canada site(s) a leading destination for scientific leadership, talent attraction, and workforce vibrancy.

Reporting to the VP Finance, CFO, the AZ Canada Site Director will:

  • Oversee the overall strategic plan for Mississauga and other potential site locations in Canada, ensuring effective execution through robust project management methodologies.

  • Lead and build a world-class site by leveraging internal capabilities and talents, while applying project planning and resource management to drive key initiatives.

  • Drive the AZ Canada site reputation internally in collaboration with senior global stakeholders.

  • Ensure site strategy and operation plans align with future needs for both head office and field-based employees.

  • Foster a supportive work environment by providing sustainable site infrastructure, including facility management, workplace health and safety, IT, and fleet management.

  • Lead a team of approximately 5 employees across various functions to ensure operational excellence.

  • Manage budget ownership and key vendor partnerships.

  • Oversee seamless employee onboarding/offboarding processes.

  • Ensure enterprise site governance aligns with strategy, policy, and culture across the organization.

  • Allocate up to 10% of time for travel, with potential increases based on evolving site strategy.

Essential Skills/Experience

  • Strong track record of success with demonstrated affinity for project management and operation experience - site management experience as an asset.
  • Demonstrated strategic leadership and judgment. Possesses the confidence to operate effectively at senior levels with internal and external constituents.
  • Direct experience leading cross-functional teams with excellent results in execution and delivering results.
  • Proven ability to shape teams or organizations in a positive way – in response to internal or external challenges.
  • Commitment to attracting talent and developing employees to achieve their full potential.
  • Prior experience in a global organization is a must.
  • Ability to engage and influence cross-functional teams.
