Safety, Health & Environment (SHE), North Ryde

Our Engineering & Facilities function enables safe, reliable and sustainable operations across AstraZeneca. Within SHE, we partner with site leaders and frontline teams to drive a strong safety culture, ensure compliance with legislation and AZ standards, and progress environmental sustainability initiatives. • Lead day-to-day SHE activities: incident response and investigations, action management, timely stakeholder support and accurate technical advice.
  • Implement, review and improve the North Ryde Safety Management System to meet legal obligations and AZ standards; uplift compliance and ways of working.
  • Coach and mentor partners in SHE systems and processes; design and deliver engaging training (face-to-face, virtual, toolbox talks) and coordinate external RTOs as needed.
  • Drive effective risk management: develop/review risk assessments, maintain risk registers, and ensure controls align with legislation and guidelines.
  • Lead high-risk work programs (confined spaces, work at height, chemical management, LOTOTO and permits) and support environmental sustainability initiatives and compliance.

Essential for the role

  • 5 years’ experience in a comparable SHE role within FMCG, engineering, manufacturing or similar complex environments.
  • WHS qualifications (minimum Cert IV and Diploma) and certified incident investigation (e.g., ICAM or equivalent).
  • Strong knowledge of Australian SHE legislation, standards and codes, with confirmed experience in risk assessment, incident investigation, and SHE systems.
  • Shown capability handling high-risk work and permits (confined spaces, work at height, chemicals, LOTOTO); excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills.

Desirable for the role

  • Postgraduate qualification in SHE or related field; Workplace Trainer & Assessor Cert IV; SHE Management System auditing.
  • Experience in environment and sustainability, process safety and process hazard analysis.
  • RTW Coordinator qualifications and experience; familiarity with GMP environments (pharma or food).
