UK/Ireland Compliance Business Partner

This is what you will do:

The UK/Ireland Compliance Business Partner is the primary strategic advisor to the Alexion AstraZeneca Rare Disease teams based in the UK and Ireland. This position will be responsible for advising our UK-based affiliate responsible for commercializing Alexion products in the UK and Ireland, as well as our manufacturing and R&D operations based in Ireland.  Reporting to the Head of EUCAN & International Compliance, the UK/Ireland Compliance Business Partner will serve as a member of multiple internal leadership teams while supporting the Company’s overall global compliance strategy and culture.  You will also partner with the AstraZeneca Non-Commercial Compliance team to act as an internal subject matter expert and main point of contact for the Alexion Rare Disease Unit on matters relating to trade sanctions compliance.

You will be responsible for:

As the UK/Ireland Compliance Business Partner, your key responsibility will be to drive the development, implementation, and management of the compliance program, including policy, process, training, communication, programs and systems, for the Alexion affiliates in the UK and Ireland. This position also supports the Operations team that is headquartered in Dublin, as well as our growing R&D hub in Dublin.  You will serve as a Compliance subject matter expert and will partner with local leadership to set the strategic tone and align the tactical direction for the organization in line with local regulation and local Code requirements.

You will:

  • Develop targeted guidance, policies and training to address needs
  • Support key strategic compliance projects across the Commercial and non-Commercial organisations
  • Provide change management and cultural leadership through the continued implementation and maturation of the compliance program
  • Lead periodic Compliance Committee meetings with members of the UK/Ireland leadership team
  • Lead and/or serve as a major contributor to key strategic compliance projects implemented across the extended AstraZeneca Ethics & Compliance team
  • Provide change management and cultural leadership through the continued implementation and maturation of the compliance program
  • Serve as a partner for compliance assurance activities, investigations, and internal audits and assist in the implementation of mitigation and remediation measures
  • Analyze internal and external ethics and compliance developments and implement responses to these developments as appropriate
  • Perform live compliance oversight activities including but not limited to field visits, ride-alongs, and supporting large conferences and congresses
  • Maintain an updated understanding of local healthcare laws, regulations, and guidance
  • Develop formal and informal communications to deliver compliance program key messages and build a culture of ethics and integrity

You will need to have:

  • 7+ years of relevant pharmaceutical industry experience
  • Substantial experience applying healthcare compliance principles to pharmaceutical industry practices and interpreting relevant industry codes
  • The highest ethical standards, as well as an ability to operate with absolute discretion and objectivity
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • High learning agility and adaptability
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, with an ability to influence across all levels with a solution-oriented mindset, including the ability to constructively challenge management when appropriate
  • A demonstrated track record of driving results as an effective a team member and leader in a highly matrixed organization · The ability to effectively operate independently, seeking management input as needed to confirm alignment on major questions
  • The duties of this role are generally conducted in an office environment. As is typical of an office-based role, employees must be able, with or without an accommodation to use a computer; engage in communications via phone, video, and electronic messaging; engage in problem solving and non-linear thought, analysis, and dialogue; collaborate with others; maintain general availability during standard business hours in adherence with applicable in-office work policies.

We would prefer for you to have:

  • Prior in-house experience in compliance, legal, finance, risk management or regulatory functions at a large pharmaceutical company
  • 4+ years of prior in-house experience in a compliance, legal, finance, risk management or regulatory function at a pharmaceutical company
  • A post-graduate degree (Master’s or higher) and/or professional licensure in a relevant field, such as a post-graduate legal, business, or scientific degree, or professional licensure as an accountant or certified privacy professional
  • Prior experience working on R&D, manufacturing operations, and commercial matters
