AstraZeneca is accelerating the expansion of our geographical footprint in rare diseases following the acquisition of Alexion in 2021. Rare diseases is a high-growth therapy area with rapid innovation and significant unmet medical need. Over 7,000 rare diseases are known today – yet less than 1% of them have an approved treatment.
As we begin to build our position as a Rare Disease leader, we seek a Rare Diseases Regional Account Partner to join our Commercial Team in Gulf (UAE). The RAP is a full-time position, responsible for generating clinical demand for our brands in key accounts, pro-actively identifying business opportunities, recommending solutions to drive and develop business, and development of opinion leader commercial relationships. The RAP serves the region as an expert in their therapeutic area, product and territory knowledge.
The role will work very closely with the regional business manager / Franchise Head to deploy and adapt the AZ account management strategy to the local market, including tactics and execution.
The Regional account partner reports directly to the Regional Business Manager.
The Regional Account Partner will be responsible for generating clinically driven demand for Rare Disease medicines with healthcare professionals (HCP), pro-actively identifying new patient / patients on therapy targets, presenting value propositions, and recommending patient-centric solutions. In doing so, this role will develop strategic and mutually beneficial relationships with the healthcare professionals (HCP), Key External Experts (KEE) and other stakeholders, based on a deep scientific understanding of the rare disease and therapeutic solutions, to identify the best opportunities for the assigned part of AZ's portfolio to deliver life-changing medicines to patients.
What you’ll do:
- Relationship management: Establish and sustain high-value relationships with key decision-makers across rare disease expert centers and disease-specific key accounts; act as the primary point of contact for stakeholders.
- Account planning: Develop insight-based account plans for all top accounts and treatment centres in the respective specialty; represent the territory in regular reviews and account plan discussions.
- Cross-functional execution: Lead development and implementation of customer-focused and patient-centered tactics developed in collaboration with Marketing, Medical, Market Access, and Patient Advocacy, supporting HCP education and patient-oriented solutions across targeted specialties.
- Organizational and pathway insights: Build an in-depth understanding of key account structures and regional patient pathways (including referral networks and diagnostic flows) to support disease awareness, timely diagnosis, safe and effective use of our medicines, and patient journeys across all targeted diseases.
- Network building: Build a solid network of effective, trusted relationships with hospitals, university centers, regional labs, decision makers to develop partnerships with local scientific organizations.
- Scientific engagement: Create value for HCPs by discussing the latest, in-label scientific data using approved promotional elements; organize hospital promotional meetings and regional education/speaker sessions in line with SOPs and local regulations.
- Access & Reimbursement and Tender management: Work proactively and collaboratively with Market Access teams to accelerate and streamline patient funding, formulary listing, tender process to ensure products availability, when public tenders arise in the territory, collaborate closely with the Key Hospital Account Manager.
- Compliance and ethics: Always act ethically per the policies and local regulatory frameworks, collect and communicate pharmacovigilance information according to AZ procedures; ensure appropriate utilization for patients receiving AZ medicines, where required.
- CRM and reporting: Ensure timely, accurate input of relevant information into CRM systems; deliver complete reporting and presentation of account plans, including KPIs, to leadership.
Essential for the role
- Bachelor’s degree in pharmaceutical science.
- Minimum 5 years of experience in pharmaceutical industry, out of which 2 years of experience in the Speciality care .
- Experience in UAE institution.
- Proven experience in patient journey mapping, with ability to identify gaps and high-impact leverage points across diagnosis, referral, and access pathways.
- Demonstrated ability to identify diagnostic, referral, access, and treatment gaps and translate findings into actionable strategic initiatives.
- Proven experience to work with Market Access teams to accelerate and streamline patient funding, formulary listing, tender process to ensure products availability, when public tenders arise in the territory, collaborate closely with the Key Hospital Account Manager.
- Deep understanding of referral-driven care models, diagnostic delays, and stakeholder interdependencies.
- Strong capability to generate actionable insights and continuously integrate account-level stakeholder feedback into cross-functional team (CFT) strategy
