This is what you will do:

Reporting to the Executive Medical Director, Rare Hematology & Rare Nephrology, the Medical Affairs Director, PNH, will develop the medical strategy, execute tactics and provide medical leadership in Paroxysmal Nocturnal Hemoglobinuria in the US Medical team. This is a key role, responsible for providing strong scientific and medical perspective with an in-depth understanding of the PNH medical landscape.  The incumbent will contribute to development  and implementation of the short and long-term strategies for both inline and pipeline assets, aligning with overall Alexion organizational strategy and ensuring effective and meaningful cross-functional collaboration on the US level.  Further, the Medical Director, PNH,  will work with relevant Global Medical counterparts and leadership to support the Alexion Global Medical Affairs mission to improve patient outcomes by setting and continuously advancing the evidence-based medical standard of care.

You will be responsible for:

In collaboration with the medical US and global as well as cross-functional colleagues, the Medical Director will develop and facilitate implementation of the medical (PNH) strategic plan for USMA activities by providing medical leadership, insights and strategy to USMA team across functions for one of Alexion’s disease areas of key importance in a highly competitive environment.

Responsible for the following:

  • Contributing to the development and implementation of the US strategy and plan for US MA activities for PNH by providing medical leadership, insight and strategic guidance to the US PNH medical team.
  • Under the leadership and in collaboration with Executive Medical Director,  providing medical strategic and tactical plans for late phase pipeline program for Rare Hematology as well as future LCM and potential late phase pipeline programs in the therapeutic area.
  • Leading  the situational assessment of the patient journey and the US product strategy development including harmonization of activities involving KOLs cross-functionally.
  • Developing in-year medical strategy and tactical plan for the US Medical Affairs team for PNH
  • Contributing  scientific and medical acumen as well as the US perspective to registration programs working closely with GMA
  • Providing medical review and assurance of alignment with PNH/Rare Hematology strategic areas of interest for Investigator Sponsored Research (ISR) proposals.
  • Providing medical guidance, as appropriate, regarding scientific communication, internal medical training, external medical education (CME, Symposia, medical education), Medical information.
  • Contributing medical perspective to commercial  strategy as appropriate
  • Support US TA lead with team’s performance in terms of goals and delivery of US medical plans.
  • Serving as a medical expert and resource within Alexion in support of the therapeutic area.
  • Leading content development and presentation for external medical education programs and other medical initiatives.
  • Developing, conducting, or contributing to therapeutic training programs for Alexion personnel.
  • Establishing strategic partnerships with Centers of Excellence and KOLs in areas of scientific interest and serves as  conduit for flow of information both out to the medical community and into the company.
  • Working closely with the Field medical team (Medical Science Liaisons and Field Diectors) in the development and execution of US KOL medical engagement strategy as well as the development and implementation of the field medical strategic plan.
  • Establishing and/or enhancing partnerships with key academic institutions and developing relationships with key thought leaders.
  • Planning, designing and managing medical Advisory Boards  and gather insight from national/regional/local medical Advisory Boards or other insights seeking activities.

You will need to have:

  • Must have an MD, PhD or PharmD level degree or equivalent- Hematology or  Hematooncology experience would be a plus.
  • At least 3-5 years experience in Medical Affairs or other relevant industry functions.
  • Experience/ability to work in a matrixed cross-functional environment, both in the office and remotely.
  • Excellent English communication skills,  both written and verbal.
  • Team player with ability to inform and motivate a team,  including field-based personnel.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with demonstrated track record and ability to drive results as an effective team member and project leader.
  • Proven ability to manage budget and resources.
  • Strong scientific, clinical and business acumen.
  • Flexibility and ability to adapt to changing environment.
  • Excellent problem solving, organizational, and negotiating skills.
  • Must demonstrate an energy and enthusiasm which brings a positive approach to all challenges.
  • Strong sense of ethics and integrity. Strong working knowledge of US regulatory environment.
  • Travel required up to 25%.
  • The duties of this role are generally conducted in an office environment. As is typical of an office-based role, employees must be able, with or without an accommodation to: use a computer; engage in communications via phone, video, and electronic messaging; engage in problem solving and non-linear thought, analysis, and dialogue; collaborate with others; maintain general availability during standard business hours.

    The annual base pay for this position ranges from $249,000-374,000. Hourly and salaried non-exempt employees will also be paid overtime pay when working qualifying overtime hours. Base pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. In addition, our positions offer a short-term incentive bonus opportunity; eligibility to participate in our equity-based long-term incentive program (salaried roles), to receive a retirement contribution (hourly roles), and commission payment eligibility (sales roles). Benefits offered included a qualified retirement program [401(k) plan]; paid vacation and holidays; paid leaves; and, health benefits including medical, prescription drug, dental, and vision coverage in accordance with the terms and conditions of the applicable plans.
