The Global Medical Head, Obesity is a highly experienced Medical Affairs leader with proven vision and impact. You will develop product and disease area strategy, build our capability, drive product launches and life cycle management, provide strategic direction for evidence generation, education and publication, and engage extensively externally to foster the scientific leadership of AZ. It is a critical strategic leadership position that reports directly to the Medical Head of Weight Management and T2D, within the Medical Affairs Cardiovascular Renal Metabolism (CVRM) area. You will be a member of global product/brand teams and will lead a team of medical professionals. You will be encouraged to develop a strong network with regions and countries and will have the ability to pair your own outstanding medical expertise with insight from markets, healthcare professionals, patients and health systems, to develop and execute premier medical strategies, globally. Through your leadership, you will help build a world-class obesity capability within AstraZeneca and in doing so enable outstanding product launches, practice-defining clinical studies, generation of real-world evidence, transformation of health systems and, ultimately, acceleration of population health.
Accountabilities:
- Enterprise Leadership: Builds and leads the global CVRM BPM obesity team, partnering with key collaborators internally and externally
- Strategic Vision and Direction:Accountable for the development, integration, and implementation of strategic medical plans at a global level
- External Scientific Engagement:Credibly sets and drives a bold external engagement agenda, forming strategic alliances and partnerships that can build healthcare and best practices in the obesity therapy area
- Launch, Performance and Life-cycle Management:Drives innovation and sets key performance indicators (KPIs) to build disease state understanding, surfaces new opportunities, and deliver strategic medical plans that are bold for current and future needs
Essential skills/experience:
- Doctoral level degree (MD, PhD, and/or PharmD)
- 7-10 years of experience in the pharmaceutical industry, ideally in Medical Affairs, working at the country and global/regional level
- Background/expertise in the obesity therapy area
- Experienced team leader at a global/regional level, with a track record of establishing high performance teams
- Demonstrated track record delivering results in a sophisticated matrix environment, building capabilities, and leading large scale impactful medical initiatives
- Strong analytical mind-set and ability to quickly assess large amounts of information and distill into key messages and actions
- Consistent track record to build internal and external networks and to collaborate across geographies and cultures; enterprise leader mentality
- Significant experience presenting to senior leadership; persuasive oral and written communication skills, including the ability to develop and deliver executive presentations
- Understanding of the sophisticated and evolving Medical space, including both existing collaborators and future trend
