Medical Advisor – Oncology (Lung Cancer)

What you’ll do

External Medical & Scientific Engagement 

  • Proactively identifies HCPs with high levels of scientific expertise in the diagnosis and treatment of patients to collaborate on specific medical activities (advisory boards, symposia, lectures, above-market activities, ESRs, and other data generation activities)
  • Builds, enhances, and maintains engagement with scientific leaders (Key TA Experts) and other relevant decision-makers.
  • Develop and implement KEE engagement plans in collaboration with the line manager.
  • Develops own scientific knowledge about AZ products and the whole therapy area, discusses all aspects of data in a scientific, objective, and balanced way.
  • Disseminates results of published clinical studies to the medical community, translating their clinical values and incorporating them into business strategies.
  • Responds to unsolicited requests about unapproved AZ products or unapproved uses of approved products, presenting such information in an objective, scientifically balanced, substantiated manner.

Development and initiation of scientific programs for unmet medical needs in the assigned TA

  • Initiates and discusses the potential involvement of HCPs in ESRs, RWEs, and clinical trials to address unmet medical needs.
  • Conducts basic discussions on clinical trials in terms of study design and feasibility.
  • Supports clinical team to select appropriate investigators and sites.

Medical & Scientific Support for internal AZ stakeholders

  • Participates as key member of cross-functional brand team(s) within the respective TA
  • Provides internal stakeholders with an understanding of the local medical community, clinical practice, trends, and gaps in current scientific knowledge in the assigned TA, collects and shares competitive intelligence data.
  • Provides medical input for the development of the respective TA Brand Plans and provides input to medical budget allocation.
  • Develops and implements local medical plans and ensures alignment with the brand plans.
  • Develop pre-launch plans and implement pre-launch activities for new products, according to timelines agreed upon with other AZ stakeholders prior to the planned launch, to address key clinical and scientific challenges.
  • Prepares and conducts training of internal stakeholders for the respective TA products or disease area knowledge.

Governance and adherence to processes and regulations (including but not limited to patient safety, clinical trials, promotional activities, etc.)

  • Provide medical input for the development of promotional materials and events.
  • As Nominated Signatory ensures that all materials and events are in line with internal SOPs, relevant industry codes, and local regulations
  • Ensures that company confidentiality is maintained (e.g., intellectual property, product information)
  • Ensures compliance with the AZ Code of Ethics, Corporate Governance, audit requirements, and other relevant guidelines, codes, policies, and procedures.

Essential for the role

  • Biomedicine university degree (Medicine preferable)
  • Excellent knowledge of the English language
  • Driver’s license required
  • At least three years experience in the pharmaceutical industry
  • Proven experience in Medical Affairs role and/or Oncology is an advantage
  • Good planning and organizational skills
  • Expertise in discussing scientific content and context with a variety of audiences.
  • Excellent presentation skills: oral and written communication and interpersonal skills
  • Extensive experience in relationship and stakeholder management
  • Product lifecycle understanding and project management experience
  • Ability to take initiative, self-motivation, and engagement.

Desirable for the role

  • Advanced scientific degree
  • Understanding of multiple aspects of Medical Affairs
  • Experience with Oncology and other advanced therapeutic areas will be beneficial
