GMAP HTA CoE – HTA Medical Writer (12-month contract)

The Global Market and Access Pricing (GMAP) team at AstraZeneca is creating a new Centre of Excellence for HTA Statistics and Modelling Science at our global Barcelona hub to meet the needs of our growing pipeline and the external environment. We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced medical writer to join our HTA and Modelling Science (HMS) team as a Medical Writer. As part of a multi-disciplinary group, including HTA statisticians, payer evidence experts, and market access specialists, you will be helping us to shape the payer environment by creating and delivering high-quality written evidence to help us unlock the potential of our life-changing medicines for patients around the world.
What you’ll do
In this role, you will play a crucial part in the development of high-quality technical reports and publications that meet the rigorous requirements and expectations of HTA agencies and policy decision-makers to support patient access to our innovative medicines. With the growing use of HTA, including the upcoming Joint Clinical Assessment in Europe, you will help shape how we communicate our scientific and economic evidence. Your responsibilities will include:
• Leading the drafting and finalization of analysis plans and technical reports such as statistical analysis plans and technical reports related to statistical analyses, health economic models and HTA submissions.
• Supporting internal technical communications to ensure consistent messaging and knowledge transfer across global cross-functional teams.
• Preparing and contributing to scientific publications, including abstracts and manuscripts for submission to peer-reviewed journals and presentations at scientific conferences.
• Ensuring all written documentation is scientifically accurate, methodologically sound, and compliant with relevant guidelines and regulations for HTA bodies.
• Collaborating closely with HTA modellers, statisticians, and payer evidence experts to interpret complex data, translate sophisticated analyses, and distill key insights into clear, concise, and compelling written evidence.
• Playing a key role in the innovative application of AI, specifically by training and guiding AI agents to automate the development and enhancement of aforementioned documents, such as technical reports and publications, contributing to efficiency and standardization.
What you’ll need
For this Medical Writing Lead role, you should have:
• Expert technical writing and communication skills, with a proven ability to articulate complex scientific and health economic information accurately and clearly for diverse audiences (e.g., HTA agencies, internal stakeholders, scientific community) .
• Significant experience in medical writing focusing on HTA submissions, health economic model reports, and scientific publications (abstracts, manuscripts).
• Strong understanding of HTA methodologies, health economic models (e.g., cost-effectiveness, budget impact models), and statistical analysis principles relevant to market access and reimbursement. This includes the ability to interpret clinical data and understand methods such as indirect treatment comparisons.
• Familiarity with global HTA systems and requirements, including the dynamics of upcoming regulations like the Joint Clinical Assessment in Europe.
• Excellent collaboration and interpersonal skills to integrate effectively within a global, cross-functional matrix environment and ensure alignment with various internal and external stakeholders.
• Demonstrated interest or practical experience in AI and automation technologies for document generation, content optimization, or knowledge management, with a keen willingness to train and leverage AI systems for writing tasks.
• Degree in a relevant field such as medical writing, communications, public health, health economics, life sciences, pharmacy, or equivalent professional experience demonstrating strong health economics and writing capabilities.
