Global Medical Performance & Field Medical (MSL) Excellence Director, Respiratory & Immunology
Location: Barcelona - Spain (3 days working from the office and 2 days working from home)
Role Summary
Reporting to the Global Head of Medical Performance & Field Medical Excellence, the Global Medical Performance & Field Medical Excellence Director is accountable for aligning global and local medical strategies and driving world‑class medical performance and impact. This role will define and operationalize the standards, capabilities, and measurement frameworks that elevate Medical Affairs execution, accelerate launch excellence, and advance healthcare delivery across markets.
Key Responsibilities
Define, standardize, and track disease area and brand Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) that demonstrate the impact of Medical on launch excellence, evidence generation pull‑through, scientific engagement quality, and improved patient care. Establish leading and lagging indicators with clear targets and governance.
Develop and cascade Field Medical Strategic Plans (FMSPs) into markets; identify and close strategic and execution gaps through targeted interventions and capability building.
Lead the TA/Brand Field Medical Leaders Forum to align on strategy, capabilities, and execution excellence; drive consistency and continuous improvement across geographies.
Lead Medical performance updates and insights at leadership forums; synthesize performance drivers, risks, and corrective actions with a concise, executive‑ready narrative.
Structure and deliver high‑quality medical insights aligned to KITs/KIQs to inform disease area and product strategy, evidence plans, and external engagement priorities.
Partner with Global Medical Excellence and cross‑functional teams to ensure consistent utilization of global frameworks, scientific platforms, engagement models, and dashboards; maintain continuous engagement with Markets/MCs on performance and adoption.
Define medical resourcing and field deployment models required to deliver TA/brand strategies, including capacity, capability mix, and optimization across launch and in‑line phases.
Measure and communicate the performance and impact of global medical initiatives and deliverables (e.g., scientific assets, training, disease education, web and omnichannel programs), including ROI and lessons learned.
Implement field diagnostics and AI‑enabled coaching/in‑call evaluation to enhance scientific exchange quality and adherence to standards; ensure robust change management and compliance controls.
Drive adoption of Medical CRM, insight platforms, content management, and analytics dashboards; set data quality standards and steward master data relevant to Field Medical.
Pull-through change initiatives that modernize Medical performance and field medical excellence, including operating model evolution, technology enablement, and skill transformation.
Qualifications
Doctoral degree (MD, PhD, or PharmD) preferred; advanced scientific/healthcare degree required.
3+ years of experience in respiratory and/or immunology therapeutic area preferred, with strong scientific credibility.
Experience working within a country medical team (e.g., Medical Advisor, MSL) and proven success in Global or Regional Medical Affairs roles; field medical leadership experience preferred
Deep understanding of the evolving Medical Affairs landscape, including payer and health system needs, external stakeholder dynamics, and compliance requirements.
Proven ability to collaborate across geographies, cultures, and functions (e.g., Commercial, Market Access, Clinical Development, HEOR, Digital/IT); enterprise leadership mindset.
Proven track record delivering new capabilities and leading large‑scale, impactful Medical initiatives across geographies; experience operationalizing standards at scale.
Strong oral and written communication skills, including delivery of executive‑ready presentations; ability to distill complex information into clear decisions and actions.
Ability to flex between high‑level strategy and detailed execution; comfortable setting direction and diving deep where needed.
Strong analytical mindset with proficiency in interpreting performance analytics, real‑world data concepts, and engagement quality measures; ability to translate insights into actions.
Familiarity with Medical CRM, content management, omnichannel platforms, AI‑enabled coaching/quality tools, and dashboarding/BI solutions; ability to define user requirements and drive adoption.
