BPM Evidence is accountable for the delivery of global strategic studies required to generate the evidence to build the confidence on AZ therapies and additional observational research and externally sponsored research required by Global Product Teams.

The Director, Real World Data (RWD) Strategy reports directly to the Senior Director, RWD Office and drives our data strategy for RWD. They will partner closely with therapeutic area evidence strategy leads and cross functional teams to plan for RWD needs, including use cases, timing of data availability, geographic coverage and RWD granularity. This critical role will also be accountable for driving and assessing opportunities to partner with other business units, markets and R&D teams on the identification, evaluation, and onboarding of RWD assets across the product lifecycle. By developing the RWD strategy & landscape across therapeutic areas, the Director, RWD Strategy enables the generation of timely Real World Evidence (RWE) by our cross-functional teams to drive patient impact.

Typical Accountabilities

  • Drive RWD acquisition and partnership strategy by synthesizing evidence requirements across BioPharma therapeutic areas and lead the long-term & cross-therapeutic area data strategy

  • Plan for RWD needs (timing/modality/granularity/geographies) for priority initiatives

  • Seek & evaluate external RWD sources & networks for fit-for-purpose RWD

  • Manage data licenses and vendor relations in partnership with Procurement and Finance

  • Partner with RWD Engineer and RWD Technology & Governance Director on data quality validation

  • Build & drive systematic knowledge and organizational memory of RWD vendors & networks for cross-functional (re)use

  • Act as a point of contact between BPM Evidence and other teams at AZ utilizing RWD (e.g., Medical, Market Access, local affiliates)

  • Maintain awareness of new developments in RWD, vendors, networks, external alliances, and related technology development which may be applied to the design and execution of our RWD strategy

Education, Qualifications and Experience

Essential

  • Business and/or medical science degree with industry experience is required

  • Expertise in RWD generation, delivery, and translation to impact clinical practice

  • Extensive operational understanding of real-world evidence, inclusive of experience working with secondary data (e.g. administrative claims, electronic medical records) and secondary data networks

  • Experience in healthcare or biopharma industry, with a strong preference for experience in BioPharma therapeutic areas

  • Solid alliance and project management expertise with track record of delivering successful strategic partnerships & building strong vendor relations in RWD industry

  • Strong cross-functional mindset

  • Curiosity in building & applying disease knowledge

  • Driven to apply innovative RWD strategies to have sustained patient impact

  • Ability to lead and/or engage cross-functional working groups and teams to deliver results

  • Proven experience of engaging with and leveraging insights from external customers e.g. external experts, patients and payers

Desirable

  • Experience working in a global organization and delivering global solutions in consultative roles

  • Experience with RWD in European Union region

  • Ability to strategically represent the company at external conferences and forums

  • Excellent organizational and analytical skills with demonstrated ability to prioritize and manage multiple initiatives
