Medical Therapeutic Area Lead for CVRM Portfolios

Are you ready to lead medical strategy and field excellence across Cardiovascular, Renal and Metabolism portfolios to drive evidence-based change for patients? In this leadership role, you will guide a high-performing team of Medical Science Liaisons and Therapeutic Area partners to deliver prioritized medical initiatives at pace. You will connect scientific insight with business needs, broaden partnerships with external experts, policy makers and patient groups, and translate real-world evidence into actions that change care standards. Your work will shape pre-launch science, national strategies and cross-therapeutic area priorities, turning insights into measurable outcomes for patients and the enterprise.

Accountabilities:

  • Strategy Leadership: Define and champion a clear CVRM medical strategic imperative; drive innovative collaboration across internal functions and external partners to deliver measurable impact on patient care and brand performance.
  • Field Medical Excellence: Lead and coach Medical Science Liaisons and a Therapeutic Area Medical Partner; set priorities, build capabilities and ensure consistently high-quality scientific exchange.
  • National and Cross-TA Influence: Serve on the Therapeutic Area Core Team to lead initiatives that shape national strategies; contribute as part of the Extended Leadership Team to drive cross-therapeutic area priorities and execution.
  • Insights Integration and Trend Forecasting: Integrate medical and scientific knowledge from key opinion leaders, brand teams and literature to identify emerging trends and forecast their impact across brands; translate insights into clear actions.
  • Commercial Partnership: Work with sales leaders to coordinate Medical Liaison activities, optimize resource allocation and ensure compliant, high-impact field coordination.
  • Partnership Building: Broaden relationships with external experts, policy makers and patient groups to strengthen evidence generation and external engagement.
  • Capability Building: Build MSL capabilities through targeted development, tools and coaching; track performance and raise the bar on engagement quality.
  • Delivery Excellence: Lead the delivery of agreed medical initiatives with your line manager and matrix team leader; measure outcomes and scale successful approaches across portfolios.

Experience:

  • Lead the delivery of medical initiatives as agreed with line manager and matrix team leader
  • Leads team of Medical Science Liaisons and Therapeutic Area Medical Partner
  • Develop strategic imperative and drive innovative collaboration with the in internal and external partnership
  • Building Medical Science Liaisons capabilities and ensure they deliver an excellent capability
  • Serves as a member of the assigned Therapeutic Area Core Team and leads initiatives that impact national strategies for a specific therapeutic area
  • Serves as a member of the Extended Leadership Team and leads initiatives that impact a specific Therapeutic Area and cross-Therapeutic Areas
  • Works with sales leaders to coordinate Medical Liaison activities and optimize use of resources.
  • Integrates scientific and medical knowledge from key opinion leaders, brand teams and literature to identify and forecast trends that might impact AZ business across brands
  • Advanced clinical or scientific degree (e.g., MD, PharmD, PhD) and deep CVRM expertise.
  • Proven leadership of cross-market medical strategy and national medical initiatives.
  • Established network with CVRM key opinion leaders, policy makers and patient organizations.
  • Demonstrated success in real-world evidence generation and translation into practice change.
  • Strong capability-building track record for field medical teams, including coaching and performance frameworks.
  • Ability to distill complex science into clear narratives for diverse audiences, including commercial partners.
  • Experience coordinating with brand teams to align medical priorities and resource allocation while maintaining compliance.
  • Comfort operating at pace in a matrix environment with clear outcome accountability.
