Medical Director, Lung Cancer Strategy (US Medical Affairs)

Oncology is a strategic priority and rapidly growing business for AstraZeneca. Lung Cancer is our prioritized tumor type where we not only have a strong presence and leadership but where we have a bold ambition to leverage the same and drive towards a cure for these patients. We are making considerable progress to deliver on this by working along with our stakeholders and with our best in class assets are delivering unprecedented outcome improvements for these patients in late-stage and early-stage disease with indications on the market as well as a fast-delivering LCM program. We are accelerating these efforts further through a robust clinical development program (CDP) for new assets with new approaches like MRD and adaptive interventions. Our broad and rich CDP and approach in Lung Cancer positions us well to continue our leadership in this space and deliver a cure for these patients as our ultimate goal.
As a Lung Cancer Strategy Director, you'll play a pivotal role in channeling our scientific capabilities to further our agenda on doubling the 5-year survival rate by successfully bringing these new assets to commercialization. The role has leadership accountabilities that are critical to the delivery of AZ business objectives and portfolio value targets. Working with the US Franchise Heads to collaborate across the AZ Lung Cancer Franchise, you will be a critical part of the US Franchise Team and enable the cross-functional teams to successfully deliver on specific commercial leadership and accountability for these key late-stage assets for Lung Cancer & beyond.
In this role, you will oversee the above brand lung cancer strategy for AZ Oncology US Medical Affairs across franchises (Immuno-Oncology, TKIs, ADC). You will work collaboratively with cross-functional teams within medical affairs and with the R&D and commercial functions to develop and implement strategies across lung cancer in order to optimize the delivery of our portfolio of oncology drugs to clinical practice.
The role will be responsible for developing and driving the medical affairs vision of our Lung Cancer strategy by collaborating directly with brand teams across franchises, Medical, Diagnostics, Market access and other supporting functions in OBU.
The role is positioned as a great platform for a high potential enterprise talent to immerse in a key Oncology tumor type, understand development to commercialization approach, learn about US TA level strategy & delivery work that will have a broad impact with short to long term deliverables across functions and franchises
Accountable for pull-through of overall Medical Affairs elements of Lung Cancer strategy working across franchises
Analyze and conceptualize a strategy with the judgment, and skills to influence, set direction, generate alignment, as well as prioritize and balance short-and-long-term needs in a changing landscape
Drive key clinical practice shaping initiatives to support delivery of above brand/ above franchise initiatives in support of Lung Strategy
Work as the US medical lead for Lung Ambition Alliance team to harness synergies in having an external impact through LAA and AZ strategy execution
Serve as the key point of contact between US and Global lung strategy teams to foster a collaborative and streamlined approach
Serve as the key point of contact for the lung cancer studies delivery with R&D and the SWAT, working with these teams to prioritize and coordinate effective drug evidence delivery
Support and coordinate Oncology Franchise Heads and the Lung Cancer Core strategy group to shape and deliver the overall lung cancer strategy and the medical affairs plan
Represent US Medical Affairs input and support running the Medical Affairs steering committee for Lung Cancer Strategy
Communicate and lead scientific exchanges with senior lung cancer experts internally and externally in order to support acceleration and appropriate delivery of lung cancer portfolio.
Advanced degree in biological sciences and or medical training (Ph D., MD., PharmD)
Subject Matter Expert in the oncology drug development process; specifically in lung cancer preferred
Analysis and fact-based decision-making in a competitive and changing landscape
Experience in developing, planning, and tactically delivering short-and-long-term strategic plans in medical affairs
Executing based on qualitative data in a bio-pharmaceutical environment;
Working with scientific and industry leaders to gather insights and opinions to shape strategy
Working cross-functionally between all key areas of the drug development process (R&D, Commerical, RWE, etc)
