External R&D Business Operations Specialist

Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for managing external collaborations using existing tools and processes. In addition, reviews existing tools and processes to identify areas of improvement and ensures business continuity of external research. Able to solve complex problems across a variety of projects.
  • Support the Preclinical Oncology Toolbox by triaging collaboration proposals, obtaining project team decisions, tracking contracting processes (including Sponsored Research Agreements, Material Transfer Agreements, and Confidentiality Agreements), and working closely with the group coordinating shipping AstraZeneca materials to external collaborators.
  • Support all operational aspects of collaboration delivery from coordinating reviews of project proposals by partnering with internal stakeholders through outcome reporting/publication and study close-out activities.
  • Manage information by maintaining a collaborations database, including tagging entries with appropriate metadata.
  • Organizes internal cross-project collaboration update meetings, and prepares and distributes meeting agendas, minutes, actions, and decisions.
  • Provide project management support to collaborations and key alliances, including managing timelines and budget in PLANIT (timeline/budget tracking system).
  • Maintain awareness of technology developments to drive innovation and continuous improvement of the processes.
  • Work closely with internal stakeholders across the enterprise such as Project Leaders, Project Managers, Scientists, Legal Attorneys, Alliance Management, Business Development/Transactions team, Medical Science Liaisons and Information Services team and external parties such as third-party suppliers, external consultants, health care professionals and academic researchers.
  • Support regular portfolio reports by pulling key information from the external collaboration database and creating visual reports with quality metrics.

Essential Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in relevant discipline, preferably in Biology or Chemistry.
  • Flexibility to adapt to changing business needs or project-specific requirements.
  • Strong analytical and soft skills and excellent communication skills.
  • Reading comprehension of scientific literature.
  • Experience of managing projects/programs.
  • Well-developed organizational and interpersonal skills. Comfortable working with culturally diverse teams.
  • Experience of working with third party suppliers or external consultants, health care professionals and academic researchers, or equivalent.
  • Good knowledge management practices and tools.
  • Effective problem and conflict resolution skills. Solution-oriented mindset.
  • Dedicated team player.
  • Strong experience leading and managing a team (evidence of leading cross-functional teams focusing on good communication, passion for customers and working collaboratively).
  • Ability to understand contractual agreement structure, terms and obligations and be able to translate the terms in a way understood by senior management.
  • Ability to assess issues/risks and effectively implement remediation measurements.
  • Ability to initiate, develop and implement new strategies and processes.

Desirable Requirements:

  • Experience of working in a global organization with complex/geographical context.
  • Experience of authoring scientific documents.
