What you’ll do

AstraZeneca has an opening for an Associate Scientist position in the Cell Therapy group within the Antibody Discovery and Protein Engineering Department to support pre-clinical research of innovative gene and cell therapy products. Expertise in molecular biology and in vivo studies is critical for this role. The candidate will be part of an interactive team with potential to contribute to multiple pre-clinical gene therapy projects.

We are seeking candidates with a BS and over 2 years of research experience. Current hands-on experience in animal/mouse studies - e.g. IV injection, tissue harvesting, blood/DNA/RNA isolation and qPCR/qRT-PCR skills - is required.  Work experience using viral vectors such as AAV vectors and cell-based assays using flow cytometry, confocal microscope and ELISA is desired. The ability to multi-task is critical.  A successful candidate must be well-organized and must keep an excellent written record of their work. They must also be able to communicate clearly in oral and written form with supervisor and various project team members.

Essential for the role

  • BS in Molecular Biology or similar field and over 2 years of research experience
  • Basic in vivo/mouse study skills (IV, IP and IM injection, tissue harvesting, DNA/RNA isolation)
  • Basic molecular biology skills (DNA cloning, Western blotting, RT-PCR, qPCR)
  • Cell culture experience

Desirable for the role

  • Hands-on experience with ELISA, ELISPOT; Flow Cytometry; IHC; AAV vectors
