AstraZeneca’s vision in Oncology is to help patients by redefining the cancer-treatment paradigm, with the aim of bringing new cancer medicines to patients. A broad pipeline of next-generation medicines is focused principally on four disease areas - breast, ovarian, lung, and hematological cancers. As well as other tumor types, these are being targeted through five key platforms - immunotherapy, the genetic drivers of cancer and resistance, DNA damage repair, HER2, and antibody-drug conjugates, underpinned by personalized healthcare and biomarker technologies.

The Associate Medical Director is a member of the Oncology brand Core Medical Teams and assists the medical director in the development and execution of the Brand Medical Plans.  The associate medical director will be responsible for executing advisory boards, creating congress plans, and assist in the creation of launch plans and be a key contributor to launch execution.

You will work closely alongside the medical director towards the execution of the Medical Affairs components of the Brand Medical Plan.  Responsibilities include development and delivery of appropriate scientific messaging and education to key customers; development and execution of scientific programs aligned with the Brand Medical Plan; delivery of medical and scientific insight gained from advisory boards or from field medical back to the Oncology Brand Teams. You will forecast and coordinate Medical Affairs resources and services.  Represent the key interface between the needs of the US KOLs and other clinical decision-makers and the Brand Team through interactions with all Medical Affairs functions.   You will work closely with the Brand Team as well as the Global Medical Team.

Plan and manage Medical Affairs budget allocated by Brand Team (travel, training, vendor management, etc).  Lead the Customer Engagement Team for the brand Core Medical Team prioritize and focus Medical Affairs resources on key deliverables.  Accountable for the optimal strategy for appropriate use of medical information by the Medical Affairs team.  Accountable for providing U.S. customer view to Brand Teams in order to develop customer-led strategies and development plans

Essential Requirements:

  • Masters degree or higher in science-related field, such as Pharmacology, Pharmacy, Medicine, or equivalent
  • Relevant examples of previously managing a diverse group of responsibilities
  • Ability to work effectively in a cross-functional team environment
  • Proven examples that exemplify successful leadership abilities
  • Expert technical depth in the disease area of Oncology
  • Strategic influencing skills within around medical communities and societies
  • Highly developed written and verbal communication skills
  • Well-developed initiative ability
  • Excellent project management skills
  • Strong organization and time management skills
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills

Desirable Requirements:

  • Doctorate in Pharmacology, Pharmacy, Medicine, or equivalent
  • Masters of Business Administration
  • Documented Oncology/Immuno Oncology/ Lung disease experience
  • 2+ years experience in a  scientific position in academia, government, or scientific communication
  • Working knowledge of FDA requirements
