Associate/Oncology Medical Training Leader

AstraZeneca’s vision in Oncology is to help patients by redefining the cancer-treatment paradigm, with the aim of bringing six new cancer medicines to patients between 2013 and 2020. A broad pipeline of next-generation medicines is focused principally on four disease areas - breast, ovarian, lung and hematological cancers. As well as other tumor types, these are being targeted through five key platforms - immunotherapy, the genetic drivers of cancer and resistance, DNA damage repair, HER2 and antibody drug conjugates, underpinned by personalized healthcare and biomarker technologies.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

The Associate/Oncology Medical Training Leader is responsible for leading the scientific content development and training for Medical Affairs activities in support of the oncology therapeutic area and medical plan objectives. The A/OMTL will be responsible for developing and delivering training content and scientific development programs for Medical Affairs personnel supporting oncology, aligned with the Medical Plan and consistent with the needs of field and HQ-based personnel.  Additionally, the A/OMTL partners with the oncology Learning & Development Manager to develop innovative learning approaches to efficiently and effectively train US Medical Affairs personnel.

Essential Requirements

  • Advanced degree in science-related field, such as Pharmacology, Pharmacy, Medicine (or equivalent)
  • Previous clinical or research expertise in hematology/oncology diseases
  • >3 years managing programs in a team environment
  • Strong knowledge of Learning & Development, Medical Science Liaison teams, Medical Strategy, Medical Information, or Clinical Development
  • Ability to manage a diverse group of responsibilities
  • Ability to work effectively in a cross-functional team environment
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills and interpersonal skills

Desirable Requirements

  • Doctorate in Pharmacology, Pharmacy, Medicine, or equivalent
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in a strategy-setting role within Medical Affairs
  • Working knowledge of FDA requirements
  • Experience working with Commercial or Brand Team
